The PGRSA pre-conference tour will showcase the natural wonders of Alaska with a trip to a Reindeer Farm, followed by a picturesque one-mile hike to the 200-foot-high Thunderbird Falls . The Thunderbird Falls Trail only gains 100 feet, making it an ideal trip for all outdoor enthusiasts.

2017 Post-Conference Tour

Post-conference Experimental Facilities & Botanical Tour

Join us for a tour of Anchorage's most compelling research, wildlife and botanical sites!

This tour will include a tour of the University of Alaska's Matanuska Experiment Farm, a visit to see Stephen Brown's giant cabbages, a lunch at Summit Lake, a visit to a Musk Ox Farm, a behind-the-scenes look at the Alaska Plant Materials Center and a walk through the Alaska Botanical Garden. The Matanuska Experiment farm includes 260 acres of cultivated land and 800 acres of forest land for research or demonstration purposes, as well as lab facilities for research on soils, plants and livestock. The 405-acre Plant Materials Center examines grains, grasses, fruits, potatoes, shrubs and trees for the potential use in Alaskan climates. The Alaska Botanical Garden consists of 110 acres of spruce and birch woodlands showcasing northern horticulture and native plants.

Lodging Commitment
To keep costs as low as possible, the PGRSA makes certain commitments to our host hotels by guaranteeing them a certain number of rooms will be occupied by our attendees. In exchange, the host hotels offer us concessions and other perks. If we fail to meet our room night commitments, we are faced with hefty penalty fees. For this reason, PGRSA will charge a $250 Facilities Usage Fee for those who choose not to stay at the host hotel.

Refund Policy

Meeting registration and tour refund policy:

  • Before June 1, 2017 - full refund (less $50 service fee)
  • June 1 through June 30, 2017 - 50% refund (less $50 service fee)
  • July 1 through July 15, 2017 - 25% refund (less $50 service fee)
  • July 16, 2017 or later - no refund

The PGRSA will retain a $50 service fee on all refunded registrations as outlined in the refund policy. This service fee covers non-refundable credit card processing charges and other expenses incurred by the PGRSA.
